The software is free. Services are not.
Analytical Ledger costs nothing to download, run or self-host. We charge for managed hosting, firm onboarding and support. There are no published prices yet: hosting is an invite-only beta, so you ask and we answer.
Fair Source · free software · paid services · one database per client
6010Four ways in
Two are free. Two are services.
The product is the same in every one: the same books, the same rules, the same agent connection. What differs is who runs it.
Windows download
Free
Runs on your own computer with its own embedded database. Your data never leaves it.
- No server, no admin install
- A verified backup before every upgrade
- Windows 10 or 11, one user
Run it yourself
Free
Run it from source on your own server, against one PostgreSQL database, under Fair Source terms.
- Read it, change it, fix it
- Your team and your agents over HTTPS
- Backups you can prove will restore
Managed hosting
By request · invite-only beta
We run one isolated instance for you: your own app, database and domain.
- Nightly backups, restores verified
- Upgrades handled for you
- Your agents connect from anywhere, your phone included
Onboarding and support
By request
For CFOs, planners and firms moving client books in. A person works through it with you.
- Setup and chart of accounts migration
- Entity structure
- Training, and support after
The product is not a preview: Analytical Solutions runs its own companies and household on it every day, on its own server. The tags above mark the packaging around it. Every capability, with its status, is on the features page.
6020Why services cost money
One instance each. No shared database.
Hosting is a service because we run a whole instance for every client. That is the point: books are the one thing that must never mix.
Why not multi-tenant
Each client has an application, a PostgreSQL database, document storage, secrets, backups and a domain of their own. The entities inside are that client's books. There is no shared tenant database, so another client's bug, query or incident cannot reach yours.
What we operate
TLS on your own domain, nightly backups that are proven by restoring them into a scratch database, and upgrades that take a backup and verify a restore before and after they migrate. Your owner manages users and access.
You can always leave
Ask for the full SQL database and your documents, with checksums, the application release and restore guidance. The software is free, so what we hand back restores into the same software on your machine or your server. The key for saved integration credentials is delivered separately.
Region, availability, retention, the offsite backup destination and the price are agreed with each client before an instance is switched on. None is published, because none is settled. How hosting works
6100Fair Source
FSL-1.1-ALv2, Apache 2.0 after two years.
Analytical Ledger is Fair Source: source-available, not open source. The Functional Source License allows any use except a competing one, and every release later becomes Apache 2.0.
Day one
Read it, run it, change it
Any purpose that is not a competing use is permitted. You do not need our permission to self-host or to fork it.
The one restriction
No competing resale
You may not offer it to others as a commercial product or service that substitutes for it or does substantially the same thing.
Two years later
Apache 2.0
Each version converts on the second anniversary of the day it was made available. After that it carries no restriction at all.
Permitted
- Your internal use, for your own companies and household
- Modifying it and running it on your own server
- Professional services you provide to a client who also uses the software under these terms
- Non-commercial education and research
Not permitted
- Selling hosted accounts. Offering Analytical Ledger, or a product built from it, to others as a competing commercial service.
- Using our name. The name and logo are covered by a separate trademark policy that ships with the source.

6200Questions
Short answers on cost and terms.
What does it cost?
The software costs nothing to download, run or self-host. Managed hosting, firm onboarding and support are paid services, by request. There are no published prices yet because hosting is an invite-only beta.
Why is the software free?
Because we earn from running it for you and from helping a firm adopt it, not from licensing the code. The ledger is the same on your own machine, your own server and a hosted instance, so you are never pushed to pay to keep your books.
Is Analytical Ledger open source?
No. It is Fair Source: source-available under FSL-1.1-ALv2. You can read, run and modify it for any purpose except offering it to others as a competing product or service. Each release becomes Apache 2.0, a standard open-source license, two years after it ships. The public source release is in preparation.
Can I use it for my clients' books?
Using the software to provide professional services to a client who is also licensed to use it is permitted. What the license forbids is offering Analytical Ledger, or a substitute built from it, as a competing product or service, for example selling hosted accounts. The license text controls. If your arrangement is unclear, ask us before you build on it.
Can I leave with my data?
Yes. On a managed instance you can ask for the full SQL database and your documents when you leave, with checksums, the application release and restore guidance. The key that decrypts your saved integration credentials is handed over separately. Local and self-hosted books are already yours: they sit in your folder or your database.
Is it Windows only?
The download is Windows only for now: Windows 10 or 11 on x64, with Microsoft Edge for the app window. There is no Mac or Linux installer. On a Mac or Linux machine, self-host from source (Node and PostgreSQL 18) or request a managed instance and use it from your browser.
